FRANCESCA LEE
"A HYPNOTIC AND CONFESSIONAL MUSICAL RAPTURE! MUSICALLY CREATIVE AND LYRICALLY BRILLIANT."
Francesca Lee has always created haunting and endearing music. However, it is not surprising if you have not heard of her. Some may call her San Francisco’s best kept secret. Even now as you are reading this chances are she is performing amongst the smoke of a dimly lit bar, coffee house, or small club in San Francisco. Maybe you’ve spotted her in Texas or maybe somewhere in Northern England. Her constant travels are not far from surprising for this songwriter. Her songs often portray restlessness of the soul. Her songs evoke jazz influenced indie pop that is cinematic, confessional, personal and hypnotic in its delivery. Accordingly, her newest release titled “Paper Hearts” combines these elements as the singer/songwriter unleashes her first full-length album to be released nationally August 2008.
Strong, angelic, poised and powerful, Music Connection magazine has described Francesca’s music as folk noir. Collected Sounds noted “Her music is more than girl and guitar, Francesca is a talented and interesting songwriter”. Painfully deep at times and narcotic in its nature, her music will always remain personal, musically creative and lyrically brilliant.
After graduating with a degree in music from Sir Paul Mcartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Francesca worked at everything from a voice teacher, booking agent, backup vocalist in the UK, and even appeared in a pilot episode of MTV’s Real World. Her first self-titled release featured hit Sony UK artist Sandi Thom on backup vocals and keys. This capability of wearing so many different hats had taken her on a whirlwind of different stints, but music was her first and foremost passion. Upon returning to the U.S., she started playing piano, writing a notebook full of songs and headed to San Francisco. Songsalive praised, “This is an artist with a bright future for whatever direction she chooses to travel on her musical journey. She is dedicated to her craft and it comes through.”
In 2005 she was introduced to San Francisco producer Michael Winger who produced other bay area artists like Tim Bluhm of the Mother Hips, The Kronos Quartet, and Beth Waters. Known for his live recording for Feist, Regina Spektor, and Beth Orton, she signed a production deal to complete her first full length release in 2008.
